WHY WHY?

Eine Spurensuche

 

WHY WHY? thematisiert die Angst des Künstlers, den politischen, moralischen, ethischen Kompass zu verlieren. Welche Werte, Handlungen, Dinge bestimmen unsere Existenz, worauf können wir bauen, vertrauen, was gibt uns Beständigkeit und bietet Halt? Warum sind wir nicht in der Lage, uns so zu verhalten, dass wir unsere Umwelt und damit unserer ureigene Lebensgrundlagen schützen und bewahren? Was hindert uns daran, die Gedanken und Sichtweisen unserer Mitmenschen unvoreingenommen wahrzunehmen? Wann haben wir verlernt, miteinander auf zivilisierte Weise zu kommunizieren?

 

Zentraler Teil der Ausstellung ist ein Wald aus halb verbrannten Schildern und Wegweisern, deren Ziele nicht mehr oder nur noch schwer erkennbar sind. Seit Jahrhunderten wird u.a. in Japan und auch Skandinavien das Anbrennen und Flämmen von Holz dazu benutzt, Gegenstände wetterfest und beständig zu machen. Boote, Werkzeuge, Speere, Dächer und ganze Häuserfassaden - durch das Feuer werden die Mikroorganismen auf den Oberflächen zerstört, das Holz fault dadurch nicht.

 

Bewahren und zugleich zerstören - tief in der menschlichen Natur verankert.

Wohin soll denn die Reise gehen, wohin, ja wohin ja wohin?

A search for traces

 

WHY WHY? addresses the artist's fear of losing his political, moral and ethical compass. What values, actions, things determine our existence, what can we build on, trust, what gives us stability and offers support? Why are we not able to behave in a way that protects and preserves our environment and thus our very own basis of life? What prevents us from perceiving the thoughts and perspectives of our fellow human beings without bias? When did we forget to communicate with each other in a civilised way?

 

The central part of the exhibition is a forest of half-burnt signs and signposts whose destinations are no longer recognisable or only with difficulty. For centuries, in Japan and Scandinavia, among others, the burning and scorching of wood has been used to make objects weatherproof and durable. Boats, tools, spears, roofs and entire house facades - the fire destroys the micro-organisms on the surfaces and the wood does not rot.

 

Preserving and destroying at the same time - deeply anchored in human nature.

Where then is the journey to go, where, yes where yes where?
